More Info
Archways Santa Ana is an integrated community consisting of 85 affordable homes serving large families and formerly homeless individuals.
The project is located within an amenity rich community with transit routes on the adjacent east-west and north-corridors and nearby commercial amenities including a grocery store and other daily essentials. Ground floor spaces oriented along Westminster Boulevard include the main lobby, resident library, officers for property management and service providers, and community room, activating the adjacent pedestrian realm.

Building + Interior
The community consists of three buildings that break down the scale of the multifamily property, all oriented along a pedestrian paseo that aligns with the adjacent commercial properties to the east and west. The four-story buildings taper down in height toward the south, transitioning to the single-family neighborhood. The buildings employ a playful use of plaster, color, and arches to engage the half dozen commercial and residential developments iterating on the Spanish-revival style throughout the 70’s, 80’s, and 90’s.

Landscape Architecture
The pedestrian paseo also provides an organizing axis for community amenities and common outdoor spaces including an intimate courtyard and mini-park that hosts a community garden, outdoor kitchen, and tot lot. The mini-park and adjacent community room are programmed to serve both residents of the property as well as the adjacent neighborhood, providing a shared space for building social bonds between existing and new neighbors.

Graphic
The contemporary interpretation of Spanish-revival architecture provided the basis for building a brand identity for the new residential community. The spirited color palette for the new buildings are carried throughout branded material that provides a seamless character that is familiar to residents. The vertically-oriented typography pays homage to the taller colonnade of arches that predominate the building exterior.
